Job summary

Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver seeks an experienced instructional designer to develop and implement comprehensive training for light rail and commuter rail operations and maintenance. You will design curricula, scripts, and multimedia content, ensuring accuracy, instructional quality, and regulatory alignment.

The role collaborates with operations, maintenance, safety, and regulatory partners to maintain current programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Organizational Development, Education, Instructional Design, or Workforce Development.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in training, curriculum development, or instructional design, preferably within rail or transit operations and maintenance.
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and implementing training programs and learning materials across classroom, e‑Learning, blended, and simulation formats.
• Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire; no DUI, DWI, or Reckless Driving violations in the past 5 years.
• Knowledge of rail operations and maintenance environments, including safety‑critical systems and fleet components.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement engaging learning activities and comprehensive course content for rail operations and maintenance.
• Identify learning objectives, performance expectations, skills, and knowledge required for safe operation and maintenance.
• Conduct needs assessments and gap analyses to identify learning deficiencies and create solutions.
• Develop and manage full courses and curriculum with instructional materials, guides, and assessments.
• Create and test multimedia content, including video, audio, simulations, and gamification for rail systems.
• Structure content to support adult learning and continuously refine materials for evolving requirements.
