Job summary

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway is seeking a Track Laborer in a full-time, union role within the Engineering Department. The position involves maintenance, repair, and installation of track to ensure safe operations under FRA guidelines.

Workers perform outdoor tasks in all weather, with emphasis on safety, teamwork, and adherence to operating rules across locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Travel is required along the railroad network.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
• Ability to secure Commercial Driver’s License within 120 days of hire.
• Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Repair and rebuild railroad track using power and hand tools.
• Remove and replace railroad ties; pull and drive spikes; replace ballast.
• Load and unload equipment and materials as assigned.
• Inspect track, trackbed, and right-of-way for defects and hazards.
• Maintain track; install and remove ballast; operate track jacks.
• Handle and move track materials weighing 50–100 pounds.
• Follow safety rules and wear required PPE; monitor signals and warnings.
