Job summary

Compass Minerals is seeking an on-site Rail Yard Operator to inspect and prepare rail cars for loading and unloading, coordinating with the shuttle wagon operator and weigh master with radio communications.

The role requires high school education, experience with rail equipment, and proficiency in ERP-enabled systems for inventory and work orders, with emphasis on safety, accuracy, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma and ability to monitor equipment for proper operation.
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment or working with rail equipment is a plus.
• PC literate and proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access to analyze and communicate information; ERP navigation is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect rail cars for proper loading requirements and car integrity before loading/unloading.
• Move and position rail cars in collaboration with shuttle wagon operator and ensure proper alignment.
• Follow safety procedures and communicate potential hazards to the weigh master/plant operator.
• Ensure correct car placement, track alignment, and documentation accuracy.
• Serve as back-up for shuttle wagon operator during absences and maintain clean tracks.
