Job summary

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County in Texas is seeking a Maintenance Technician to inspect, repair and maintain the axle counter system and related signal equipment. Under general supervision, duties include inspections, calibrations and preventive maintenance to ensure safe, reliable rail service.

Responsibilities include documenting maintenance data, coordinating with staff and vendors for parts, and providing on-call support for emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in performing inspection and general maintenance work. Rail/track maintenance preferred.
• Must have a Texas Class C driver's license and meet Metro's MVR requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, repairs and maintains the axle counter system using specialized tools.
• Inspects axle counter head adjustments and mounting brackets.
• Inspects and cleans rail boot annulus and embedded track drains.
• Inspects mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment such as grade crossing mechanisms, switch machines, and relays.
• Records and documents maintenance and diagnostic data.
• Provides on-call availability for emergency repairs and unscheduled incidents.
• Works with staff and vendors to ensure spare parts and tools are available.
• Prioritizes emergency maintenance tasks in the absence of on-site supervision.
• Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
• Applies SMS methods and supports PTASP with safety compliance.
