Job summary

Union Pacific Corporation in Springfield, IL seeks an Assistant Signal Person to assist with the installation, repair, and upkeep of railroad signals and grade crossing warning systems. You will work with a range of equipment to enable safe and efficient transportation across North America.

The role requires strong math, planning, and teamwork, plus willingness to travel up to nearly full-time. A valid driver's license is required, and you must pass an English assessment before interviews.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and basic computer skills.
• Ability to supervise others and plan/organize tasks.
• Committed to safety rules and safe work practices.
• Strong math and measurement abilities.
• Able to read tables, charts, and graphs to solve problems.
• Willingness to travel extensively (approx. 95% of the time).
• Able to work with electrical/electronic signaling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and test signal circuitry, equipment, and systems to identify defects.
• Assemble/disassemble signal devices, troubleshoot, and perform repairs.
• Install, maintain, and replace signaling systems and components.
• Operate vehicles and travel across the assigned territory.
• Maintain safe work areas and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to complete tasks on time.
