Job summary

Metra is seeking a Project Manager 2 to oversee mid to large scale commuter rail projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget. You will lead cross-disciplinary teams, review designs for constructability, and manage contracts and vendor performance across stations and civil infrastructure.

Reporting to the Director of Project Management, you will develop budgets, schedules, and staffing plans, while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring quality standards and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction or Project Management, Engineering or relevant field.
• Four years of engineering or project management experience.
• Good knowledge of infrastructure project management principles.
• Good knowledge of construction principles and practices.
• Good knowledge of contract administration for public works projects.
• Good knowledge of state and federal requirements for capital projects.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and contract specifications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to lead interdisciplinary project teams.
• Ability to build relationships within and outside the organization.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle.
• Willingness to travel within Metra’s 6-county region.
• Availability for flexible hours including early morning/evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Prepare project budgets and cost estimates.
• Oversee scope of work, staffing plans, and schedules for assigned projects.
• Review plans and designs with SMEs for cost effectiveness and constructability.
• Negotiate and process contract changes; approve payments and evaluate vendor performance.
• Monitor progress and manage project risks to stay on budget and on schedule.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships for project coordination.
• Maintain project files and status reports.
