Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a highly capable Civil Engineer to join our rail design team in North America. You will contribute to track and alignment design, perform calculations, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure projects.

The role may include client-facing engagement and travel across the state. The successful candidate will hold a Civil Engineering degree, have 4+ years of rail design experience, and be eligible for PE within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical degree from an accredited University
• 4+ years progressive design experience in rail trackwork and/or roadway design preferred
• Professional Engineer (PE) or able to obtain within 12 months
• Proficiency in using Bentley (Bentley Rail Track, OpenRail, OpenRoads) Software Design Packages
• Experience in rail alignment and trackwork design for Class I Railways is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including organization and attention to detail
• Proactive self-starter who's also flexible and able to adapt and learn
• Confident and positive attitude
• Desire and flexibility to travel across the state a plus
• Strong written and communication skills
• Based on project needs, random drug testing may be required
• A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for this position

Responsibilities

• Design rail infrastructure including track and alignment design
• Prepare calculations, technical documentation, engineering design plans, technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates
• Engage as part of large multidisciplinary teams and review design documents for consistency and coordination
• Coordinate stakeholder agreements with railroads, municipalities, or other entities
• Engage in verbal and written communications with clients, contractors, and sub-contractors
• Build and harbor good working relationships with partners, suppliers, contractors, and clients
• Training team members in technical software and collaboration tools, design coordination workflows
• Assist in the preparation of proposals
• Conduct design work independently and provide guidance to junior staff
