Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs, at the Cleveland Works facility, is seeking a Shift Manager, Railroad Operations, to lead day-to-day railroad activities ensuring safe, reliable movement of materials and products across the site and with external rail carriers.

You will supervise locomotive engineers and conductors, coordinate train movements, and comply with FRA regulations while partnering with Maintenance, Production, and other departments to maximize service performance.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of railroad operations, transportation, logistics, military, or heavy industrial experience.
• Demonstrated leadership to direct and coordinate employee activities.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and development of locomotive engineers, conductors, and other railroad employees.
• Direct and coordinate plant railroad transportation activities, including train movements and switching.
• Coordinate activities with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Shipping, and external carriers.
• Ensure compliance with railroad operating rules and FRA regulations.
• Manage crew scheduling, staffing coverage, and workforce utilization.
• Develop and maintain relationships with represented employees and union leadership.
• Administer railroad compliance programs and safety audits.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor performance metrics and drive safety, productivity, and service improvements.
• Support emergency response, rerailing, and off-shift issues as needed.
• Weekend, holiday, and shift work may be required.
