Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Trainmaster in Tigard, OR to lead both operations and administration for the assigned territory. You’ll supervise train crews, manage schedules and payroll, and ensure safety and compliance with company policies and federal regulations.

You will interview, hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff while collaborating with the General Manager and HR. This role requires hands-on leadership in a dynamic rail environment and a commitment to safety and service

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in railroad with supervisory duties; 7+ years preferred
• Locomotive Engineer or Conductor certification is a plus
• Knowledge of FRA regulations
• Effective written and verbal communication
• Experience in safety-sensitive work environment
• Situational awareness and decisive decision-making abilities
• Associate degree or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• At least 18 years of age

Responsibilities

• Manage the safety performance, operating practices, and financial productivity of the operation
• Interface with customers and interchange partners, monitor service quality per contract, and resolve issues quickly
• Coordinate with peer managers across departments
• Assist in railcar-switching as needed to maintain operations
• Directly supervise train crew employees
• Manage schedules and payroll within budget
• Conduct efficiency/operation tests per company and federal rules
• Respond to accidents/incidents and prepare reports with notifications
• Collaborate with General Manager and Human Resources on hiring and employee relations
• Coach and train staff in operating practices per federal regulations and company policies
• Assist with other projects and duties as assigned
