Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Conductor for Portland & Western Railroad in Albany, OR. You will move freight safely, participate in classroom and hands-on training, and pursue long-term growth within a large rail network.

The position requires adherence to federal/state regulations, teamwork, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather on a 24/7 schedule. A valid driver’s license and physical stamina are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of related or relevant work experience is a plus.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a safety-sensitive environment is a plus.
• Situational awareness and decision‑making abilities in safety-sensitive settings.
• High school diploma or GED; valid driver's license; at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Move freight safely and efficiently; training provided.
• Follow safety regulations and operational instructions.
• Communicate with team using signals or radio to coordinate movement.
• Operate track switches and inspect train and equipment for safety.
• Perform duties as assigned.
