Job summary

Port of Tacoma is seeking a Maintenance Specialist responsible for routine building and grounds upkeep, primarily for the Port’s railroad system, including day-to-day maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and rebuilding.

Responsibilities include roadway and grounds work, reading blueprints, and operating tools and equipment. Must have a valid CDL, pesticide license within 90 days, and First Aid/CPR training within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; trade school preferred.
• Three years grounds keeping, general maintenance, and railroad tracks or equivalent.
• First Aid/CPR training required within 60 days.
• Washington Pesticide Public Operator License required within 90 days.
• Class B CDL, DOT medical certificate, and driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Port railroad system: inspections, repairs, troubleshooting, rebuilding.
• Roadway maintenance: asphalt surfaces, grading with heavy equipment.
• Grounds maintenance: mowing, tree care, irrigation, herbicide/pesticide application.
• Enter work orders, estimate labor/materials, read blueprints and manuals.
• Use hand tools, power equipment for track and landscaping.
