Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. is seeking a YTV Trainee for a highly travel-based field role across eastern and western US. You will operate the Yard Testing Vehicle and assist with manual defect testing, while supporting portable inspection operations and maintaining equipment readiness.

Travel is extensive (3–4 months at a time) with meals, lodging covered by Sperry. After training, the position advances to a YTV Operator with a base salary of $60,000 per year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card.
• Mechanical aptitude required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check (where permitted by law).

Responsibilities

• Operate the Yard Testing Vehicle (YTV) testing system.
• Perform manual testing of potential defect locations using designated equipment.
• Operate the B-Scan portable walking stick system as needed.
• Drive truck and trailer to multiple testing locations daily (DOT Medical Card required).
• Field Operations: ensure readiness and maintenance of equipment.
• Equipment Setup & Maintenance: ensure YTV is prepared, perform routine maintenance.
• Documentation & Reporting: complete daily inspection forms and logs.
