Job summary

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) in Newington, CT is seeking a Transportation Supervising Engineer (Engineering) to lead the Rail Signal and Communications and Traction Power/OCS sections. This full-time position demands expert leadership, project management, and technical insight to steer multi-million-dollar rail initiatives.

Hybrid work is available after the successful completion of the probationary period, with on-site work required initially.

Qualifications

• Eight (8) years of transportation engineering experience.
• One (1) year of lead responsibility for complex transportation engineering projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required.
• Ability to travel as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Civil Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineers and staff in railroad engineering operations.
• Act as Project Manager for multi-million-dollar rail projects, including electrification and signaling.
• Review plans, conduct cost estimates, and prepare standards and fee schedules.
• Develop policies and liaise with federal, state, and local agencies.
• Oversee consultant and contractor work to ensure adherence to requirements.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on departmental engineering operations.
• Present findings at public hearings or meetings.
• Direct field and office surveys and project delivery activities.
