Job summary

Watco is seeking a conductor/engineer to control and coordinate train movements while switching railcars at yards, plants, or terminals to load/unload for customers. This role is a manual labor position requiring training and adherence to safety and railroad procedures.

Responsibilities include reading orders, coordinating with crew, operating locomotives, applying signals, and maintaining accurate records. High school diploma or GED and the ability to pass training are required.

• Ability to pass training and required testing.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates predictable, reliable attendance and follows directions to complete tasks on schedule.
• Reads and communicates in English; understands basic math.
• Reads switching orders and coordinates activities of train crews.
• Operates locomotive in yard per railroad rules and signals; handles throttle and air brakes.
• Communicates switching information by radio or signals and coordinates with dispatcher.
• Gives or receives instructions for switching; may assist in throwing switches and coupling/uncoupling cars.
• Performs safety checks, inspects equipment, and maintains records of cars switched.
