Job summary

City of Charlotte's Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) seeks a Rail Car Technician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Siemens Light Rail Vehicles across day, evening and night shifts.

Responsibilities include adhering to safety standards, maintaining tools, and supporting rail operations, with a 9-month probation and potential CDL requirement. Employment may transition to the Metropolitan Public Transit Authority in 2027, maintaining City benefits through 2026.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED with relevant work experience.
• Associate's Degree plus relevant experience preferred.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and safety checks.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on Siemens Light Rail Vehicles.
• Adheres to safety standards and uses required tools and equipment.
• Supports rail operations, wayside, and public safety functions.
• Responds to rail system emergencies and conducts testing on vehicles.
