In the role of Rail Bridge Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
  • Serving in a technical role on rail bridges and structures engineering/design projects supporting HDR’s Freight Rail Market Sector and other sectors as needed.
  • Performing structural engineering/design calculations, developing design details using specialized software, writing specifications, developing cost estimates, and reviewing construction submittals.
  • Supporting Project Managers or Task Leads in proposal development, project scope, budget, and scheduling.
  • Collaborating across teams, regions, and with various clients including rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Engaging in project phases from feasibility analysis to final design and construction.
  • Assisting Project Managers with client and stakeholder visits, site assessments, and construction inspections as needed.
  • Reviewing or checking design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by team members.
  • Supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary projects, including planning and environmental clearance processes.
  • Mentoring less experienced staff.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Experience in the railroad engineering industry with familiarity with railroad design guidelines, specifications, and criteria
  • Preference for local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, Autodesk InfraWorks, and Civil 3D
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestressed Concrete Design
  • Experience managing junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork ability
