Job summary

Wabtec in the United States is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and deployment of Train Handling solutions. You will collaborate with engineering teams, product management, and railroad customers to advance automation and optimize performance.

The role emphasizes gathering requirements, verifying designs, and applying AI-enabled tools to improve research, productivity, and decision-making. Travel domestically and internationally is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.
• 1-2 years hands-on design, requirements development and implementation experience in Engineering Systems, Hardware/Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Support the design, development, testing, and enhancement of Train Handling solutions while applying sound engineering principles and established development processes.
• Assist in gathering, documenting, and analyzing customer and system requirements to support product development and continuous improvement activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Software Engineering, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering, to support project execution and successful product delivery.
• Participate in requirements reviews, design reviews, verification activities, and technical discussions throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Assist in troubleshooting technical issues, analyzing system behavior, and supporting resolution efforts under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Contribute to field testing, validation, and evaluation activities for train automation and optimization solutions.
• Support the preparation of technical documentation, reports, project updates, and engineering deliverables.
• Work with railroad subject matter experts and engineering teams to learn operational concepts and apply them to product development efforts.
• Develop knowledge of industry standards, engineering best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to train automation, optimization, and distributed control systems.
• Utilize AI-enabled tools and technologies to improve productivity, accelerate learning, support analysis activities, and enhance engineering outcomes.
