Job description

Job Summary

Location: Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC). Shift: Nights.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40.

Worker Type: Regular. Exemption Status: No.

Up to $25,000 sign on bonus for eligible applicants.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists are responsible for the use of radiofrequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes.

MRI technologists perform magnetic resonance imaging and acquire and analyze data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.

MRI technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in completing magnetic resonance imaging procedures.

They prepare, administer and document activities related to medications in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.

Job Duties
  • Ensures correct order is obtained; patient is properly identified and prepared for exam; clinical history is corroborated and documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol; optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety; applies principles of ALARA.
  • Prepares and administers medications through vascular access sites as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality; verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post-processing if applicable.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Assists the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
  • Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences considering established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities; fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties.
Position Details

Certifications required upon hire: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – MR certification (ARRT‑MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT). Additional certifications such as Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) may be beneficial.

Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program—Radiologic Technology (Required); Bachelor’s Degree—Related Field of Study (Preferred).

Experience: Minimum of 2 years related work experience (Required).

Certifications and Licenses: Basic Life Support; Certified MRI Technologist (ARMRIT); Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT); Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist RT(R)(MR) (ARRT); Radiography (R) (ARRT).

Qualifications & Skills

Essential skills include patient care, image acquisition and analysis, safety protocols, medication administration, and support of interventional procedures.
