Job summary

Geisinger’s Imaging department in Scranton is seeking an MRI Technologist for night shift. You will perform MRI procedures, ensure patient safety, and assist licensed practitioners. The role requires ARRT MR or ARMRIT certification with at least 2 years of experience and adherence to ALARA principles.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program in Radiologic Technology (Required).
  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience (Required).
  • ARRT MR certification or ARMRIT/NMTCB MR certification (Required) and BLS.
  • Certified MRI Technologist, CNMT and radiography credentials preferred.

Job Title: MRI Technologist-Nights Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania Job Category: Diagnostic Services, Radiology Schedule: Nights Work Type: Full time Department: Geisinger Viewmont Imaging Radiology Team Date Posted: 09/17/2025 Job ID: R-85136 Job Summary up To $25,000 sign on bonus for eligible applicants Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists are responsible for the use of radiofrequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. MRI technologists performs magnetic resonance imaging and acquire and analyses data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Magnetic resonance technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Magnetic resonance technologists prepare, administer and document activities related to medications in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.

Job Duties
  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Applying principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Assisting the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
  • Performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Selecting appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
  • Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.
  • Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
Position Details

The following certifications are needed upon hire: Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) and (ARRT)-MR Or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or primary ARRT-MR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and (ARRT)-MR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and ARMRIT
