Position Overview: Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for the treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months (WV, Ohio, Maryland) or 1 year (Pennsylvania) of hire.
- Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check required, and Federal if applicable.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:
- Rotate through all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols, with supervision.
- Produce high-quality images using proper equipment and techniques.
- Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding and other safety measures.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort, hygiene, and mobility.
- Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Engage in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives.
- Follow ethical standards, department policies, and regulations.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required training and competencies.
- Position patients accurately according to protocols.
- Assist in coordinating daily workflow.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students within program policies.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed properly.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to differentiate shades of gray on monitors.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Carry items up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to minimal radiation, monitored via dosimeter.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
- Operate imaging equipment with moving parts.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Positive interaction with patients and healthcare team.
- Prioritization and multitasking skills.
- Ability to adapt positioning and techniques for patient conditions.
