Position Overview
Performs imaging / therapeutic services and patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
- Radiologist Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal if applicable.
For Pennsylvania locations:
- Same as above, with the requirement to pass ARRT boards within one year of hire.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

- Rotate through all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols.
- Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment.
- Select appropriate exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding and other techniques.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene.
- Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about radiographic procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to provide radiology services.
- Participate in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical standards, policies, and regulations.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required in-services and competencies.
- Position patients accurately according to protocols.
- Assist in coordinating daily workflow.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students as appropriate.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Differentiate shades of gray on monitors.
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Wear lead aprons for extended periods.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Carry items up to 20 pounds.
Work environment includes exposure to minimal radiation, airborne particles, bodily fluids, and operation of imaging equipment.
