Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a PRN Radiologic Technologist for the General Radiology department at UAB St. Vincent’s Blount. You will perform radiologic procedures under a radiologist's direction, producing quality images to assist in diagnosis.

You will position patients, manage exposure factors, and ensure safety protocols are followed. The role may include DEXA bone density scans and requires staying adaptable with rotating hours in a community hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire date; American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire.
• One or more of: CCI Cardiographic Tech, ARRT Radiography, ARRT Sonography, ARDMS.
• Compliance with state and federal regulations and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiologic procedures under radiologist supervision to produce quality images.
• Position patients, select exposure factors, and ensure accurate imaging and data.
• Administer contrast media within scope and regulatory guidelines.
• Monitor patient during procedures and update protocols as needed.
• Maintain radiation safety and minimize patient exposure.
• Submit high-quality images and patient data to PACS with correct markers.
• Ensure equipment functions properly and report malfunctions.
• Maintain a clean, organized department and prepare rooms for procedures.
• Possibly perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment.

Job Description

To perform radiological procedures under the direction of a radiologist. Providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.

• Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.


• Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.


• Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted.


• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.


• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).


• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.


• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.


• Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.


• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.


• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).


• One or more of the following required:
  
  
  
  • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  
  
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  
  
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  
  
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  
  
  
  

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required.
