Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Radiologic Technologist to join the General Radiology department. The role offers multiple shifts, including days, evenings, 7-on/7-off, and PRN options, with work located at UAB St Vincent's Birmingham.

Eligible positions include generous benefits and a $15,000 bonus where applicable. Responsibilities include imaging preparation, contrast administration, patient observation, radiology safety, PACS submission, and equipment checks.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).
• One or more of the following credentials required: Cardiographic Tech (CCI), ARRT Radiologic Technologist in Radiography, ARRT in Sonography, or ARDMS in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within scope and regulations.
• Observe patient during procedure and monitor for abnormal activity; update protocols as warranted.
• Follow radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure to patients.
• Ensure high-quality images and correct data are submitted to PACS with proper lead markers.
• Ensure equipment is functioning and report any malfunctions; lock/tag as needed.
• Maintain a clean, orderly department and storage areas.
• Position patients and select appropriate anatomic and technical parameters.
• May perform DEXA bone density scans if applicable.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program

Job Description

• Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
• Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).
• One or more of the following required:
• Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required.
