Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care across Diagnostic Imaging subdivisions.
  • Assume direct and indirect nursing responsibilities in diagnostic imaging areas.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Department and Imaging Director on orders.
  • Gather objective and subjective data for patient care plans.
  • Prepare patients for procedures per department policies.
  • Monitor patient status and ensure provider coverage for imaging patients.
  • Assist with post-contrast preparation and respond to reactions.
  • Administer medications as ordered by the radiologist.
  • Familiarize with equipment and report maintenance needs.
  • Float to meet hospital needs; weekend and holiday rotation.

Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities
  • The major function of the radiology nurse is to deliver a continued level of quality nursing care to patients utilizing all subdivisions of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.
  • The radiology nurse holds ultimate responsibility for direct and indirect nursing care in general diagnostic, minor specialties, mammography, special imaging, nuclear imaging, ultrasound, and CT scan.
  • The radiology nurse reports to the Nursing Department and the Director of Diagnostic Imaging regarding diagnostic imaging issues and collaborates on the implementation of orders related to direct patient care.
  • Gathers pertinent objective and subjective data using all available resources.
  • Ensures that a patient assessment and plan of care is in place as appropriate.
  • Provides direct patient care as specified by nursing directives or indications of treatments during departmental service.
  • Informs and prepares patients for special or routine procedures according to department policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of schedules to ensure provider coverage for all diagnostic imaging patients.
  • Assists patients with post‑contrast material or media injections and responds to contrast reactions.
  • Administers medications as determined necessary by the radiologist, ensuring proper pre‑medication history is obtained and documented.
  • Performs urinary catheterization and patient preparation procedures when necessary.
  • Applies or changes dressings or special appliances required.
  • Monitors or cares for emergency or critical status patients.
  • Familiarizes with special hospital equipment such as monitors, infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen equipment, respirators, etc., reporting maintenance needs and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Assists in nuclear medicine stress tests.
  • Floats throughout the facility to meet hospital needs.
  • Requires weekend and holiday rotation.

Education/Experience Required
  • Experience as an ICU, CCU or Emergency Room Nurse.
  • Preferred experience as a radiology nurse in a similar setting.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Registration/Certification
  • Current RN Massachusetts License.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS.
  • PALS preferred.
Pay Range

$37.14 – $82.22. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time, governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with those terms.
