Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking Radiological Control Technicians (RCTs) to join the Radiation Protection (RP) Division. RCTs support a broad range of facilities, learning skills in radiological hazards and controls while working on independent projects with multiple groups.

The role offers diverse environments and shift work with potential 24/7 coverage. As an RCT1, you will operate survey instruments, count radiological materials, and collect air samples.

Qualifications

• Fundamental understanding of mathematics, physics, chemistry, or general science.
• Ability to perform basic algebra and unit conversions.
• Proven adherence to policies and procedures.
• Clear, effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to wear required PPE (e.g., respiratory protection, safety glasses, anti-contamination clothing).
• Ability to obtain Laboratory RCT certification and a Q clearance: position may be subject to HRP.

Responsibilities

• Operate portable radiation and contamination survey instruments and radiological counting instruments.
• Operate continuous air monitors and perform radiation and contamination surveys.
• Label radioactive material and support in other RCT programmatic functions as needed.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment in collaboration with multiple groups.
