Job description

Summary:

Under the direction of the Practice Manager, Site Manager, and/or the Director, performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures, applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. All functions reflect the age-specific needs of adult and geriatric patients, adapting care to their physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Fosters patient- and family-centered care and radiologic services in accordance with Brown University Health's mission, vision, and values, considering all developmental stages and cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:
  1. Greet patients, answer questions, and explain radiologic examinations to reduce apprehension, ensuring safety and comfort according to prescribed standards.
  2. Verify patient identification before each exam following the patient identification policy.
  3. Enter orders and schedule patients efficiently for radiologic examinations to maintain smooth patient flow.
  4. Process radiographic images using CR Readers and upload them to the PACS for physician review.
  5. Perform diagnostic procedures with understanding of anatomy, physiology, and technical factors to produce optimal results.
  6. Scan documents into Lifechart when applicable.
  7. Operate fixed radiographic equipment in the department.
  8. Assist physicians and physician assistants with the administration of contrast media when needed, and process exposed images accordingly.
  9. Follow protocols for RIS and PACS usage.
  10. Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and supplies in the assigned area.
  11. Participate in training and instructing new staff or students in radiologic technology, if applicable.
  12. Maintain quality assurance, adhering to safety, environmental, and infection control regulations as per department policies.
  13. Perform other related duties as required.
Other Information:

Basic Knowledge:

  • Completion of formal training in an AMA-accredited radiologic technology program or equivalent.
  • Current license to work in Rhode Island or eligibility to sit for the ARRT Registry, with Board Certification within 3 months of temporary license.
  • Ability to meet critical thinking, interpersonal skills, teamwork, customer focus, initiative, and reliability.
  • Knowledge to provide care across the lifespan, considering aging, development, and cultural patterns.

Experience:

  • Successful completion of clinical experience required for certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff, demonstrating empathy.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Healthcare settings such as hospitals, physicians' offices, and ancillary services.
  • Use of medical equipment and direct patient contact.
  • Adherence to safety procedures minimizes hazards, including use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
  • Walking and standing intermittently; may lift and position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
