Summary

Under the direction of the Practice Manager, Site Manager, and/or the Director, performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. All essential functions reflect the age-specific needs of adult and geriatric patients, adapting care to their physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Fosters patient- and family-centered care and radiologic services in accordance with Brown University Health's mission, vision, and values, considering all developmental stages and cultural patterns.

Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer questions, and explain radiologic examinations to reduce apprehension, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Properly identify patients before exams following identification policies.
  • Enter orders and schedule radiologic exams to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Process radiographic images using CR readers and upload to PACS for review.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures with understanding of anatomy, physiology, and technical factors for optimal results.
  • Scan documents into Lifechart when applicable.
  • Operate fixed radiographic equipment.
  • Assist physicians with contrast media administration and process images accordingly.
  • Follow protocols for RIS and PACS usage.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and supplies in the work area.
  • Participate in training and instruction of new staff and students.
  • Maintain quality assurance and adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Knowledge
  • Completion of formal training in an AMA-accredited radiologic technology program or equivalent.
  • Current license to work in Rhode Island or eligibility for ARRT certification within 3 months of temporary license.
  • Skills in critical thinking, interpersonal communication, teamwork, customer focus, initiative, and reliability.
  • Knowledge to provide care considering aging, human development, and cultural patterns.
Experience
  • Successful completion of clinical experience required for certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and empathy for patients.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Healthcare settings with direct patient contact and medical equipment use. Potential hazards minimized by safety procedures. Requires walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working with energy hazards.
