Job summary

Mercyhealth in Illinois seeks a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures including portable X-rays, C-arm, and fluoroscopy, while maintaining high safety and imaging quality. You will review patient history and educate patients, operate imaging equipment, and assist radiologists with fluoroscopic and special exams.

Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program with ARRT registration is required; Illinois/IEMA accreditation or Wisconsin license may apply.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT registration required; state licenses as applicable.
  • Ability to perform portable, fluoroscopic and C-arm procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Reviews patient history, ensuring orders are appropriate; collaborates with radiologists.
  • Operates imaging equipment and positions patients for optimal images.
  • Maintains ALARA principles and documents safety measures.
  • Processes images in PACS and EMR with accurate reports.
  • Provides instruction to radiography students and supports team.

Job description

OVERVIEWPerforms diagnostic radiographic procedures, including portable X-rays, C-arm, and fluoroscopy, while ensuring high-quality imaging and following radiation safety standards. Reviews patient history, positions and educates patients, operates imaging equipment, and assists radiologists with fluoroscopic and special procedures. Maintains accurate documentation in PACS and the electronic medical record while supporting patient safety and providing instruction to radiography students.Schedule: Four, 8- hour shiftsShift: DaysESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm and fluoroscopic procedures.Reviews patients’ clinical history ensuring that appropriate order placed and labs are within range as needed- reviewing with radiologist as necessaryProvides patient education.Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.Initiates basic life support when necessary.Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.Follows ALARA principles through accurate exposure factors and radiographic techniques.Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.Reports and documents XR safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.Assist with medical record/image sharing as necessary.Documents all information pertinent to XR/FL procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliationProvides practical instruction for radiography students and partners.Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.Operates mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.Prepares contrast media and assists in administration.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited School of Radiologic TechnologyOne (1) to Three (3) years experience preferredWill consider new graduatesCERTIFICATION/LICENSUREARRT Radiography registration requiredIEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in IllinoisWI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in WisconsinApproved CPR or BLS certification within 90 daysOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESProblem Solving- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.Interpersonal Skills- Focuses on solving conflict, not blaming; Maintains confidentiality; Listens to others without interrupting; Keeps emotions under control; Remains open to others’ ideas and tries new things.Oral Communication- Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Participates in meetings.Written Communication- Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Able to read and interpret written information.Professionalism- Approaches other in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.Adaptability- Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.LEVEL OF SUPERVISIONWorks independently with limited direct supervision.SUPERVISESProvides clinical supervision of allied health students and radiology aides.PAY RANGE:$27.17 - $40.75Mercyhealth is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
