Operates Computed Tomography (CT) equipment, prepares patients for examination, and ensures that proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis. Maintains required documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for examination, explains procedures, and sets up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion.
- Ensures that a consent form for IV contrast materials has been obtained and screens for pregnancy.
- Performs CT procedures including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.
- Prepares patients for exams by placing and positioning them on the exam table within the gantry.
- Adjusts and ensures proper slice thickness and couch increment.
- Collaborates with Radiologists to extend parameters within established imaging protocols if needed.
- Utilizes special devices (e.g., bromide shield) to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation of radiosensitive areas (e.g., breast, thyroid).
- Adjusts CT equipment to capture the appropriate field of view, transmits cases to on-call Radiologists via Tele-Radiology, and administers IV and oral contrast agents as per Radiologist orders, including performing venipuncture.
- Explains in layman's terms the administration of IV contrast and completes the IV Contrast Information Sheet with patient-provided information.
- Utilizes appropriate flush techniques for IV lines, uses power injectors for contrast administration, and recognizes and assists in treating contrast reactions and IV extravasations.
- Performs related duties as required; all responsibilities listed are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Qualifications:
- Vocational or Technical school Diploma required.
- Current License to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in New York State.
- Current ARRT Radiology registration, with specialized certifications as needed.
- 1-3 years of relevant technical experience required.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
