Job summary

EnergySolutions is seeking a Waste Package Certification Specialist to support packaging, inspection, characterization, certification, and shipment prep of radioactive waste. You will ensure packages meet WAC, DOT, NRC, and site procedures while coordinating with Radiation Protection and other teams.

The role involves reviewing loading records, contributing to manifest data, and assisting with certification and shipment documentation. Strong attention to detail and field readiness are required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent required.
• Hazwoper training (40 hour) required.
• Q clearance or ability to obtain clearance.
• 1 year of related experience.
• 3–5 years in radioactive waste packaging/transport/certification.
• Knowledge of DOT hazardous material transport requirements.
• Knowledge of NRC radioactive waste requirements.
• Ability to interpret Waste Acceptance Criteria and waste profiles.
• Ability to review technical documentation for regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform waste package certification activities per procedures.
• Inspect waste packaging to verify WAC compliance and packaging requirements.
• Document container condition, weights, dimensions, and contents.
• Review waste characterization data and loading records.
• Assist with manifest preparation and data entry verification.
• Coordinate dose rate, contamination, and shipping survey data with Radiation Protection.
• Support certification of radioactive waste packages for transport and disposal.
• Verify markings, labels, placards, blocking & bracing, and shipping docs.
• Interface with Waste Management, Radiation Protection, Engineering, Operations, disposal facilities, and carriers.
• Assist with procedure reviews and checklist updates for compliance.
• Maintain accurate records for waste package certification.
