Job summary

Arrow McLaren Indycar Team in Indianapolis seeks a Radio Engineer to maximize operational efficiency through RF and VoIP system management. You will handle configuration, optimization, maintenance, and troubleshooting of radio equipment to support the team’s performance on the track.

The role requires hands‑on electrical skills, experience with analog RF gear, and the ability to work under intense race conditions within a high‑performance environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in engineering (or equivalent) required.
  • Experience with analog VHF/UHF radios or similar RF comms gear.
  • Knowledge of VoIP hardware and intercom systems.
  • Ability to perform hands‑on work including wiring loom installation and cable termination.
  • Understanding of RF antenna theory and performance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in a high‑pressure racing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain voice intercom systems (VoIP).
  • Program radios, especially in UHF analog spectrum.
  • Install car radio equipment and related hardware.
  • Configure timing stand radio hardware.
  • Maintain ancillary components (headsets, cabling, helmet mics, earpieces).
  • Monitor and optimize antenna performance.

Purpose of the Role

The role of the Radio Engineer is to maximize the operational efficiency of the Arrow McLaren team. Seamless voice communication is critical for the performance of our IndyCar Team. The radio engineer is responsible for all RF and VoIP equipment and operation. This includes initial configuration, performance optimization, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Configuration and maintenance of Voice-over-IP intercom
  • Programming voice radios, specifically in the UHF analog spectrum
  • Car radio equipment installation
  • Timing stand radio hardware configuration
  • Ancillary component maintenance – headsets, cabling, driver helmet microphone, earpieces, etc.
  • Antenna performance monitoring and optimization
Job requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Associates degree in an engineering field
  • Experience with analog VHF or UHF radios
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with VoIP hardware
  • Ability to perform hands‑on work, including wiring loom installation and cable termination
  • Understanding of RF antenna theory
  • Ability to troubleshoot and thrive in a high‑pressure environment
