Radiation Therapist delivers ionizing radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist to restore and enhance the quality of life, eradicate or diminish disease, and maintain health. The Radiation Therapist performs simulations, schedules patient treatment, and completes associated billing. The position requires flexibility to cover satellite radiation oncology locations and may involve assisting at different sites as needed.
Essential Duties:
- Provides Radiation Therapy services including CT Simulation and treatment delivery as part of the Radiation Oncology team, ensuring quality care for each patient.
- Performs effectively in emergency situations, managing patient or equipment issues swiftly.
- Participates in team approaches to treatment, following proper setup procedures.
- Resolves problems and communicates issues promptly to management.
- Uses ARIA and paperless systems efficiently and effectively.
- Ensures continuity of care through proper communication among team members.
- Coordinates patient needs and schedules across departments.
- Manages daily activities to focus on treatment delivery tasks.
- Evaluates patient responses to treatment and refers for management when necessary.
- Provides age-appropriate care, understanding growth, development, and patient-specific needs.
- Adheres to professional ethics, institutional policies, and standards.
- Maintains current certifications and respects patient confidentiality.
- Applies radiation protection principles consistently.
- Completes annual clinical competencies and quality assurance checks.
- Monitors schedules and adjusts for staffing and treatment needs.
- Prepares patient time-outs and communicates effectively with the team regarding delays or issues.
- Fosters positive workplace relations and participates in cross-training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program; new graduates considered.
- Knowledge of dosimetry, MLC, CT Simulation, and IMRT.
- Strong technical skills and work ethic.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of Radiation Therapy experience.
- Experience with Varian machines, especially Truebeam, and Varian EMR.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH).
- ARRT Radiation Therapy certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); must be obtained within 30 days if not already held.
