Job summary

Maryland Department of the Environment seeks a Health Physicist Trainee to assist with inspections, investigations and regulatory activities related to radiation safety. The role includes processing registrations, conducting preventive maintenance and certifications to protect the public and workers from unnecessary exposure.

The position requires a minimum of four years’ radiological hazard experience or a qualifying science degree, plus Maryland driver’s license and teamwork attitude.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in recognizing, evaluating and controlling radiological hazards.
  • Bachelor’s degree substitution possible with 30 credit hours in relevant sciences.
  • U.S. Armed Forces service as commissioned officer or specialist can substitute for experience.
  • Must possess motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Support inspections, investigations and regulatory activities.
  • Process registrations, preventive maintenance and certifications.
  • Protect public and occupational personnel from radiation exposure.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and respond to radiation emergencies as needed.
