Job summary

The Maryland Department of the Environment is seeking a Health Physicist Trainee in Baltimore, MD to support inspections, investigations, registrations, maintenance, and certifications that protect the public from unnecessary radiation exposure.

The position includes training, potential annual promotions based on performance, and a benefits package with telework options, leave, and a state pension. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and have legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in performing the recognition, evaluation and control of radiological hazards to employees and the general public.
• Bachelor's degree with 30 credit hours in mathematical, physical or biological sciences may substitute for the required experience.
• U.S. Armed Forces commissioned officer experience in Health and Medical Physicist classifications may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• The Health Physicist Trainee will receive training to support required inspections, investigations, and other regulatory activities.
• Process registrations, preventive maintenance, and certifications to protect the public and occupational personnel from radiation exposure.
• Respond to radiation emergencies as needed and participate in monthly staff meetings.
