Job summary

Augusta University in Georgia is seeking an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer to support radiological safety programs across laboratories and clinical spaces. You will perform equipment calibration, data analysis, and training to promote safe use of radioactive materials and X-ray devices.

The role requires coordinating with the Radiation Safety Officer and committees, drafting procedures, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while maintaining the institution's safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Radiation Protection Technology or related science.
• Three years of work experience in radiation safety.
• Experience using relational databases and spreadsheets for statistical analysis of data.
• DOT and 40 hour HAZWOPER training within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to complete a 40 hour Radiation Safety Officer training within two years.
• Valid driver's license.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct technicians who conduct monthly surveys, investigations, and assessments of radioactive material use laboratories to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Calibrate radiation detection instruments in accordance with requirements.
• Maintain databases and Excel spreadsheets to capture and analyze results.
• Prepare data for analysis by the Radiation Safety Officer and the Radiation Safety Committee.
• Provide radiation safety training and conduct in-field surveillance of radiation use areas.
• Draft and update internal radiation safety procedures.
