Organizational Unit: Research Integrity & Compliance is a unit within the USF system vice presidential area, Office of Research & Innovation. The main function of RIC is to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations pertaining to the responsible conduct of research. The division manages programs such as Human Research Protection, Animal Safety, Diving Safety, Radiation Safety, Biosafety, Scientific Misconduct, Conflicts of Interest in Research, Export Control, and HIPAA. RIC has 35 employees and an annual budget of nearly $3 million. Clients include USF research faculty, students, staff, and researchers at affiliated institutions.
Position Summary: The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) ensures the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-generating equipment in compliance with federal and state regulations and USF policies. The RSO manages the radiation safety program and staff, providing technical support and oversight to USF faculty, staff, students, and affiliates.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline and five years of radiation safety experience, or Master's degree with three years of experience. Work experience cannot substitute for the degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified health physicist, familiarity with government regulations on radioactive materials, supervisory experience in radiation safety management.
Required Licensure: Licensure as a Certified Health Physicist is mandatory.
