Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Radiation Protection Technician Junior to perform technical radiological analyses and testing, assisting engineers in health physics services.

Responsibilities include surveys, contamination control, calibrations, and reporting. Requires HS diploma or GED, at least 2 years of related experience, and residency within 45 minutes of the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience as Radiation Protection Technician Junior.
• Associate's degree in health physics preferred.
• NRC radiation exposure limits compliance required.
• Must reside within a 45-minute drive to D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations for test results, reports, and records.
• Conduct radiation, contamination, and airborne surveys as directed.
• Analyze need for contamination control measures and direct their use.
• Instruct others in health physics precautions and shielding equipment.
• Perform sampling operations and analyses per radiological procedures.
• Handle processing and counting for plant and environmental samples (alpha, beta counting, gamma spectrometry).
• Inspect turbines, pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, and other equipment; draft maintenance reports.
• Operate and maintain radiological analysis equipment; analyze data and calculate results.
• Assist ALARA in shielding installation/removal and operate company vehicles.
• Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
