Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Radiology Technologist Assistant to transport patients to and from imaging areas, prep rooms, stock supplies, and document information in the EMR.

Under supervision, you will assist with patient positioning, maintain equipment and cleanliness, support patient flow, and help with patient registration and transport, while ensuring safety and excellent service.

The Radiology Technologist Assistant is responsible for transporting and/or escorting patients to and from diagnostic testing areas. They will assist technologists with preparing rooms/stocking supplies, positioning, prepping patients and documenting information within the EMR. facilitates patient flow. Rad Tech Assistant

Rad Tech Assistants will be responsible for transport and/or escorting of patients to and from diagnostic testing areas. They will assist technologists with preparing rooms/stocking supplies, positioning, prepping patients and documenting information within the EMR.

Facilitates patient flow. Helps patients complete history sheets. Assists with positioning and prepping of patients. Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriate care for patients of all ages.

Manages electronic images. Uses computer skills and anatomy knowledge to look-up, review and print images in an anatomically correct manner. Assists physicians in accessing electronic images online or CD. Loads prior films for storage and retrieval.

Greets customers and facilitates meeting customer and facility needs. May engage in conflict resolution while maintaining professionalism. Assists with patient access registration and transportation. Assists technologists.

Under supervision of a Registered Radiologic Technologist or Provider, the Rad Tech Assistant will prep the patient by gaining appropriate IV access for the administration of saline and/or contrast.

Maintains thorough knowledge of clinical information system for data entry and retrieval of office files, and inventory of office supplies. Maintains an orderly work environment. Utilizes all communications tools effectively. Calls in reports to physician offices. Notifies technologist/radiologist/physician of stat orders and changes. Demonstrates excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health care professionals. Receives and screens in-coming calls via telephone and patient call system. Route calls to appropriate individual and takes messages accurately. Assists physicians with retrieving report information from dictation system. Assists with orientation of new employees.

Transports patients of all ages via appropriate mode of transportation to and from Imaging Services. Assists patients to ensure safe transfer between wheelchairs/stretchers and imaging equipment. Assures patient dignity and comfort. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics and devices. Documents transport activity appropriately. Recognizes and reports appropriate data reflective of the patient’s status; interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age and/or specific needs.

Maintains cleanliness and neatness of equipment, patient areas and work areas. Orders and stocks all necessary supplies and linens. Uses principles of infection control, sterilization and dis-infection in performance of routine procedures. Performs tasks related to the storage and distribution of sterile supplies according to accepted policy and procedures.

Troubleshoots equipment problems. Communicates to the management team when service needs to be contacted. Loads film into laser cameras. Provides quality control on a daily basis for refrigerator, warming cabinet and eye wash stations.

Complies with infection control, radiation safety, OSHA standards, and practices safe operation of all assigned equipment.

Compensation Range

$16.18 - $22.65 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
