Job summary

Swain Resort is seeking a Race Coach to train alpine racers, mentor youth athletes, and promote safety and teamwork on the mountain.

You will plan daily drills, provide feedback, supervise during training and races, and communicate with parents and staff. This role emphasizes professionalism, enthusiasm, and a passion for youth development on outdoor terrain.

Qualifications

• Strong alpine skiing ability and understanding of racing techniques and fundamentals.
• Prior race coaching or competitive racing experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire athletes in a positive and constructive manner.
• Must be dependable, professional, and able to work weekends and race event days.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor athletes in alignment with USSS (U.S. Ski & Snowboard) and Swain Resort program standards.
• Create and implement daily training plans focused on skill progression and competitive development.
• Provide individualized feedback and instruction to help athletes reach their full potential.
• Set, maintain, and tear down training courses safely and efficiently.
• Supervise athletes during training and race days, ensuring safety and sportsmanship.
• Communicate effectively with parents, athletes, and other coaching staff.
• Attend scheduled coaches’ meetings, races, and events as required.
• Serve as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, discipline, and respect.
• Support Swain Resort’s overall guest service and mountain safety culture.

Position Summary

The Race Coach at Swain Resort is responsible for training and mentoring athletes in Swain’s Alpine Race Program. This position focuses on developing skiers’ technical, tactical, and mental skills in a positive, safe, and supportive team environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about skiing, enjoys working with youth athletes, and demonstrates professionalism and enthusiasm both on and off the hill.
