Job summary

CACI is seeking a Welder to join the Fabrication Team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD), located in Bethesda, MD. You will assist NAVSEA with R&D welding/fabrication efforts, including welding custom-made scale models of ships and submarines.

Projects vary widely and offer opportunities to grow expertise. Layout and fixture components, prep and weld per procedures, and record weld parameters.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• AWS or NAVSEA welding certifications.
• Experience fixturing and welding steel, aluminum, and Stainless Steel with GTAW, GMAW processes.
• Experience with brazing processes and selection of appropriate fluxes and rod for various applications utilizing a variety of materials.
• Experience and ability to perform visual inspections of welds magnified and unmagnified.
• Setup equipment to perform all GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW processes with proper machine settings and consumables.
• Experience using plasma cutting and oxy fuel cutting processes.
• Familiar with metal forming machinery including brakes, rollers, and shears.
• Reading and interpreting highly detailed drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of machining and sheet metal processes.
• Physical demands of industrial settings and lifting up to 80 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Independently plan and carry out assignments per facility policies and standard practices.
• Develop fixturing methods and weld procedures for efficient fabrication.
• Determine proper weld parameters for various ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
• Diagnose weld discontinuities and deformation and resolve potential issues.
• Advise engineers on alternative designs to reduce complexity while retaining critical features.
• Review drawings to ensure production requirements and tolerances.
• Assist with precision measurement instruments and quality control tasks.
