Job summary

ABB in Richmond, VA seeks an R&D Power System Control Engineer to contribute to medium voltage power system analysis and model-based control development. You’ll work on MATLAB/Simulink, integrate hardware and software, and troubleshoot field issues in a collaborative R&D team.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and at least five years in manufacturing, with strong English communication and occasional travel to international sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (electrical preferred) plus minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficient in MATLAB scripting and Control System/Power Systems toolboxes; Simulink modelling and code generation.
• Able to implement PID, droop, AVR/PSS and power electronic controls.
• Familiar with s-domain (Bode, Nyquist) and z-domain analysis; good communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Control System Design & Development: analyze requirements, design, simulate, and optimize control systems using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Control Architecture & Integration: specify, develop, and integrate hardware/software for control systems meeting standards.
• Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting: perform system testing and validation to ensure safe operation.
• Power System & Converter Control Expertise: apply MV AC power system knowledge and converter controls.
