Job summary

ABB is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Critical Power team in Richmond, VA. You will generate mechanical design requirements, model with SolidWorks, and document designs while supporting prototype fabrication and cost-reduction initiatives.

The role is hybrid and collaborates with cross-functional teams across engineering disciplines. You will convert concepts into engineering drawings, participate in design reviews, and help release manufacturing-ready documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• 5+ years mechanical design experience.
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
• Knowledge of sheet metal design and associated drawings.
• Experience with PLM software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design deliverables for power protection equipment.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver timely, high-quality designs.
• Participate in design reviews and verification, providing feedback.
• Design and release mechanical prototypes and lead improvements post-fabrication.
• Lead design-improvement efforts to reduce product cost.
• Convert conceptual designs into engineering documentation.
