Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico seeks an independent, self-motivated R&D Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design for mounts and structural components within the Hardened Deeply Buried Targets program, supporting a fast-moving, high-visibility effort.

You will perform detailed FEA, collaborate with systems engineers, electrical engineers, materials scientists, and manufacturing teams to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems, and oversee prototype fabrication,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five or more years of directly relevant experience or equivalent.
• DOE Q clearance or equivalent to start is required.
• Strong communication and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of mounts and structural components.
• Perform detailed FEA and simulations to validate designs under operational conditions.
• Collaborate with systems, electrical, materials, and manufacturing teams to integrate designs.
• Oversee prototype fabrication, testing, and validation activities.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for stakeholders.
