Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories' Department of Bioresource and Environmental Security is seeking an on-site Intern (R&D Undergraduate Year Round) in California to join a multidisciplinary team.

You will help optimize nutrient utilization and biomass generation in algae systems, guided by a technical mentor, and work on a range of molecular biology, microbiology, and engineering tasks aimed at national significance.

Qualifications

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program.
• Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee or refugee in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain algae cell cultures.
• Collect biomass and water samples.
• Carry out molecular and biochemistry assays.
• Perform test runs on lab-scale/pilot-scale cultivation devices.
• Use analytical instrumentation (e.g. UV/Vis, LC, MS, flow-cytometry).
• Analyze experimental data and present results to the team.
