Job summary

Claborn Manufacturing is seeking an R&D Product Engineer responsible for overseeing new product design, testing, and refining production and fabrication processes in a sheet metal environment. The role requires strong attention to detail and a drive to optimize production efficiency.

You will collaborate with sales and engineering to design complementary products, prepare fabrication drawings, and manage in-house tests and third-party assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience of working in a sheet metal manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Good math and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to produce accurate work while multitasking and operating with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Oversee new product design, product testing, and reviewing/improving production and fabrication processes and procedures.
• Work with sales and engineering teams to research, design, and develop new products that complement our current detention equipment product line.
• Prepare shop fabrication drawings for new product prototypes.
• Responsible for all current in-house testing and periodic updates.
• Monitor and maintain test report files.
• Work with outside third party testing agencies.
• Assess and analyze current processes to improve production, reduce costs, and improve quality.
• Collaborate with maintenance and plant managers to create jigs/fixtures to maximize productivity of machinery and workers.
• Assist in reviewing all operations to maintain an efficient and safe work environment.
