Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an R&D Electrical/Electronics Engineer to join our Surety System Engineering team, focusing on Category 1 equipment and acceptance testers for DoD applications. The role involves circuit analysis, safety analyses, and testing across multiple environments, with frequent collaboration across Sandia, LANL, LLNL, NNSA and Pantex.

You will lead design and testing efforts, develop safety plans, and present findings at technical reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level clearance.
• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze electrical schematics and environmental specs using NW drawing/authorization system.
• Perform fault tree and failure analysis across system levels.
• Develop testing approaches to meet safety requirements across environmental conditions.
• Understand component functionality from FPGA/ASIC/SoC to PWAs and subassemblies.
• Develop safety plans to authorize high-consequence hardware and software products.
• Collaborate with design teams, safety, and independent assessment groups to test Category 1 designs.
• Present at program reviews and nuclear explosive safety studies related to risks.
• Interface with Sandia colleagues and external labs and agencies.
• Lead R&D teams to transform technical challenges into actionable risks.
