Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking an R&D Electrical/Electronics Engineer for a Surety System Engineering role focused on Category 1 electrical equipment assurance. The job entails analysis, testing of prototypes, safety analyses, and qualification of high‑consequence hardware, interfacing with multiple Sandia groups and external labs.

You will lead analyses across components, subsystems, and software, develop safety plans, and present findings at reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Experience with high-consequence NW products or equipment.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams.
• UML modeling and software safety analysis experience.
• Experience in safety-focused design and testing processes.

Responsibilities

• Analyze electrical schematics, environmental specs, and system docs.
• Perform fault tree and failure analysis at multiple levels.
• Develop testing approaches for safe, robust designs.
• Verify component functionality from FPGA/ASIC/SoC to software.
• Develop safety plans to authorize high-consequence hardware/software.
• Collaborate with design, test, safety, and independent assessment teams.
• Present briefings at technical reviews and safety studies.
• Interface with Sandia colleagues and external labs and facilities.
• Lead and coordinate large-scale Category 1 design projects.
