R&D Electrical Prototyping Specialist

Job summary

The KYO Group is seeking an R&D – Electrical Engineering Technician at the Technology Center. You will provide hands-on support for rapid prototyping, engineering builds, product testing, reliability evaluations, and troubleshooting of cold storage and laboratory equipment.

You will collaborate with R&D engineers and other technicians to build, instrument, test prototype electrical systems, and help drive design iterations through the NPD process. Travel up to 10% is possible.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
• 3+ years hands-on experience in electrical/electronic technology or engineering testing.
• Experience building, wiring, modifying, or troubleshooting electrical/electromechanical systems.
• Experience with laboratory electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power meters, data loggers).
• Experience reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Experience soldering and reworking electrical or electronic components.
• HVAC/R, refrigeration, or thermal systems familiarity is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build, wire, modify, and troubleshoot prototype electrical and electromechanical systems for cold storage and lab equipment development.
• Assemble electrical test fixtures, reliability fixtures, wiring harnesses, panels, and evaluation equipment.
• Modify prototypes per drawings and safety practices; install components and perform soldering/rework as needed.
• Set up and run electrical, functional, performance, and reliability tests per procedures.
• Configure data acquisition systems and use test instrumentation to evaluate operation.
• Document test setups, observations, and results; support troubleshooting and engineering decisions.
• Support regulatory testing (UL/CE/CSA) and maintain test records.
