Job summary

The Sherwin-Williams Company is seeking an R&D Engineer II to advance liquid coating technologies. You will collaborate with our formulating lab, Marketing, Sales, and end customers to meet product performance and warranty expectations.

Responsibilities include hands-on development, data analysis, leading technically complex projects, establishing timelines, and applying knowledge of liquid application equipment and coating chemistry to deliver superior performance coatings.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemistry or Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial).
• Minimum of 3 years in liquid coating application, technical service, or R&D.
• Experience with conventional air-spray, HVLP, pressure pots and electrostatic hand spray.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with managers, customers, vendors, and stakeholders; deliver presentations.
• Hands-on development: applying, curing, and testing new coating products.
• Analyze data to identify trends and resolve customer issues for project advancement.
• Lead technically complex projects with minimal supervision.
• Establish timelines and identify resources to support project work.
• Apply knowledge of liquid application equipment and coating chemistry to develop coatings.
• Maintain lab housekeeping and perform preventative maintenance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Use SDS and raw materials management systems.
• Adhere to safety policies and lab documentation.
• Mentor lower-level engineers, chemists, and technicians as needed.
