Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Quality Technician for a contract role in Montgomery, PA. The role emphasizes routine inspections, CCP verification, and support for continuous improvement on the production floor.

The ideal candidate has extensive QA/QC experience in food manufacturing, strong GMP/food safety knowledge, and the ability to work independently on the 1st shift with close collaboration across Operations, Food Safety, and R&D teams.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of quality assurance or quality control experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience on the manufacturing floor in a production setting.
  • Strong knowledge of GMPs, food safety principles, sanitation, and quality inspection.
  • Experience performing frequent floor audits and verification rounds in a food production facility.
  • Proven ability to document quality issues accurately and follow procedures.
  • Ability to work independently on 1st shift in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in QA, quality control, and lab activities within food manufacturing.
  • Experience with SQF and/or BRC food safety and quality standards.
  • Experience in baked goods, snacks, cookies, crackers, or broader food manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine product inspections and quality verification checks throughout production.
  • Monitor CCPs including metal detectors, X-ray, and vision systems, address deviations.
  • Conduct allergen swabbing and environmental monitoring for safety and sanitation.
  • Ensure GMPs and sanitation standards are followed at all times.
  • Carry out floor audits, document observations, and follow up on findings.
  • Investigate quality incidents, deviations, and customer complaints, identify root causes.
  • Place product on hold when needed and assist with disposition decisions.
  • Complete nonconformance reports and support CAPA implementation.
  • Collect samples and assist with microbiological and physicochemical testing.
  • Monitor shelf-life programs and ensure proper documentation and timelines.
  • Calibrate and maintain quality measurement equipment for accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Ops, Food Safety, and R&D on CI projects.
  • Support new product development with quality input and verification.
  • Document quality issues and follow reporting and escalation procedures.
  • Work on first shift, managing daily quality tasks aligned with production.

Job Title: Quality Technician Job Description The Quality Technician plays a key role in ensuring that all snack food products meet rigorous food safety, quality, and sanitation standards. This position focuses on routine product inspections, verification of critical control points, and support of continuous improvement initiatives across the production floor. The role offers exposure to multiple aspects of food safety and quality within a stable, well-established food manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine product inspections and quality verification checks throughout production to ensure products meet established specifications and standards.
  • Monitor and verify Critical Control Points (CCPs), including metal detectors, X-ray systems, and vision inspection equipment, and promptly address any deviations.
  • Conduct allergen swabbing and environmental monitoring activities to support food safety and sanitation programs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation standards, and food safety requirements at all times.
  • Carry out production floor audits and verification rounds, documenting observations and following up on findings.
  • Investigate quality incidents, deviations, and customer complaints, and assist in identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Place product on hold when necessary based on quality or safety concerns and assist with disposition decisions and activities.
  • Complete nonconformance reports accurately and support the implementation and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collect samples and assist with microbiological and physicochemical testing to verify product and ingredient quality.
  • Monitor ingredient and finished product shelf-life programs, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to timelines.
  • Calibrate and maintain quality measurement equipment to ensure accurate and reliable data.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Food Safety, and Research & Development teams on continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Support new product development activities by providing quality and food safety input and performing relevant testing and verification.
  • Document quality issues clearly and follow established procedures for reporting, escalation, and resolution.
  • Work independently on first shift, managing daily quality tasks and priorities in alignment with production schedules.
Essential Skills
  • 12+ years of quality assurance or quality control experience in a food manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food manufacturing facility producing snack food products and is primarily floor-based, requiring frequent walking throughout production areas and close collaboration with operations and quality teams. The position follows GMP, food safety, and PPE requirements, with a strong emphasis on sanitation and adherence to established procedures. Work is performed on a MondayFriday schedule during 1st shift, with typical hours of approximately 6:00 AM2:30 PM or 7:00 AM3:30 PM (to be confirmed), and occasional flexibility may be needed to support production activities. The environment offers a stable, family-oriented culture, extremely low turnover, competitive compensation, direct visibility to the quality leadership team, and opportunities for exposure to multiple aspects of food safety and quality, including potential extension beyond initial maternity leave coverage.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
